On Friday we all slept in as we had not made it home from Leonard Cohen until 2:00 am. Then Crystal and Sandra packed up their things and we headed to Avignon. After some confusion and quite a few circumnavigations of the parking lot at the Palais des Papes we made it outside into the bright (warm) sunshine. We wandered a little bit and then headed to the Compagnie des Comptoirs for lunch. It is in the courtyard of an old customs house and has a lovely long pool and water feature and really snazzy disco-y bathrooms. There are some aerial photos of our table taken from the staircase to the loo. I had to straddle a snake plant to take them, so I hope they are worth it. After lunch we raced to the TGV station and dropped off Crystal and Sandra and picked up Glenn, who was waiting out front with all his clothes spread on a bench in the sun to dry. Apparently they got drenched when a lightning storm hit while his plane was being loaded at Pearson. We headed for home, stopping only long enough to buy some rose en vrac (a 5-litre bag in a box for 12, 50 euros) at the local cave.
When we got home around 5, Glenn put his bike together and had a shower, while I put the rose in the freezer. Then we had a couple of glasses with some olives, bread, cheese and sausage. Glenn and I headed off to the Fete de Beamont to see what was going on and immediately found ourselves in the beverage tent where we had a couple of glasses of beer before Rosanna joined us. Then we had a pastis because Glenn liked the bottle they served the accompanying water in, and I left them there and went home to make a little picnic dinner of sweet onion frittata sandwiches (with olive jam) and canteloupe and chocolate covered biscuits. We washed that down with another beer or so and listened to the band (motown and Amy Winehouse covers) for about another half hour until Glenn's energy level started to drop dramatically and we headed for bed.
